Will the Zune Come to Australia?

iPods, iTunes, portable players and digital music

I have always wondered if the Zune will come to Australia. Its like the coolest mp3 player and will be even cooler with the new software update coming out.

If the Zune does come to Australia then i can just sell my extremely featureless 30 GB iPod and get a Zune instead.

If you want one, why don't you get one?

It charges via USB so you don't have to worry about getting an adapter.

But you have to take warranty into consideration to. What happens if there was a fault and where could i replace the battery if it was dead in like 2 years.

We've heard nary a whimper from Microsoft regarding the Zune. If we get it at all, it will probably be in 2009.

Microsoft has canned the subscription music service that they announced in partnership with Sanity during the launch of Vista. So it seems that they're not all that keen on music offerings within Australia for now.

Edit: OK, so last time I talked to a Microsoft spokesperson, they said there were no plans to launch the Sanity music service. But a local rep's drawn my attention to the fact that it has indeed arrived, just a few weeks back. It's called LoadIt and integrates with WMP 11. More info here.

Still no Zune info, but it's encouraging nonetheless.

Would love if it did really like it a lot more than my 30gb ipod that I currently have, would buy it from the states but then if anything happens it would suck getting it repaired.

I just started a 14 day free trial of sanity loadit though it is kinda expensive for what you get. it's the only such service available in australia. well there is emusic but that's all independant. I'm really considering joining the loadit as a paying customer... well until something better and cheaper comes to australia :p $30 a month for 300 song downloads is crap compared to the cheaper plans available in the states that are unlimited.

I would use a zune if only to get rid of itunes (Apple struggle writing windows software) but with the latest software rev it is looking like a serious competitor to ipod.. I wouldn't touch Sanity's LoadIT service with all its DRM poison. I will just keep buying CDs and waiting for Amazon to open their mp3 store here.
