best cheap camera for close ups?

Postby gretchen » 03 Nov 2009, 14:37

hi.

i'm currently browsing the camera on ebay looking for an upgrade. my present camera is a nikon coolpix 2100, its cheap but its been ok for my first digital.

i've been reading various reviews of cameras and it gets a little confusing for someone who doesn't really understand all the terms.

the reviewer usually goes on about the many features available in each camera. my nikon has features too, yet i don't use them. i keep it in one particular mode and point and shoot. all i want is to be able to take close up pics of my pets faces, put them on the pc, and also make prints of my favourite ones. nothing else interests me, so i don't need a camera that can do dozens of things.

so what would be an ideal camera for doing such things? i don't have lots of money, so one thats a step-up from my coolpix 2100.

thanks very much.

G'day Gretchen

Your N-2100 obviously has been a very reliable camera for you for the past few years

Your choices for a new/updated camera are many, and again it comes down to your style of pituctre taking
You mention that most of your pix are of your pets, so I guess that you don't want a large, fully featured camera
You might consider something like a N-P60 with a 5x zoom lens ... it will slip into your handbag easily anough when you want it to.

Equally if you want to branch out and really "go for it" you may consider something like the P80 with a very powerful 18x zoom lens ... you'll get your close ups of your pets from across the room via a powerful zoom lens, but you won't be able to pop the camera into your handbag

compromises ....

Regards, phil
