USB not recognised error woth logitech wireless keyboard

PCs, components, peripherals, monitors and storage

Hi this is my first post. About three months ago my Dad and I bought a Logiech s520 wireless mouse and keyboard bundle. A couple of weeks ago both the keyboard and mouse stopped working and the computer gives up USB device not recognised error. In the device manager it is listed as 'unknown device'. We tried it on my mum's laptop and still gives the error. We took back to the shop and the guy plugged it into his computer and worked perfectly. He said we could bring the computer down to the shop but we know they will charge us for it. What is even more crazy is that it works fine on a really old desktop computer we have. Our main computer is new and is running vista enerprise 64 bit SP1 and has a core 2 duo E8400 with 4G ram. The laptop runs XP. Have searched the internet for fixes and have already tried a system restore to the day before, uninstalling and rinstalling drivers, unplugging USB devices and the computer from the wall. Can the Cnet editors or anyone else tell me difinitively what it is and how to fix this porblem?

Have you installed any updates lately eg firewall or anti virus or even MS updates. Try disabling your firewall and anti virus and see what happens.

Okay first of all I would download online amor as a firewall and disable the windows firewall. Also Avast is the very best anti virus which are both free and unistall the anti virus you have now.
Did you log onto Logitech support? It seems strange to me that your latest 2 computer have the problem yet the older one doesn't.

Thanks for the help, may try the new firewall. Am using avast on the laptop but think sophos is better as it doesn't need reregistering and runs very smoothly in the background. Wish someone knew what the 'USB device not recognised' problem is. What I find stranbge is it happed out of the blue wit no warning. Anyone else out there have any idea of exactly what the problem is?
